Introducing Original Classic athlete, Eddy Ramirez. He makes you laugh and he jokes around, but when it’s time to rock climb, he is focused. He always gives everything to the rock.

CURRENT TOWN: I was born in Los Angeles, California raised in Hailey, Idaho. I’m currently in Columbia, South Carolina
GIVE US A GLIMPSE INTO YOUR WORLD. WHAT IS A NORMAL DAY? Hmmm… define NORMAL? I’m part-time stay at home father (I have a 20 month old baby girl named Ava) and part time Midnight Shift UPS Package Handler (which is a fancy way of saying that I load a lot of packages into freight trucks all night). I usually get to kayak or climb after hanging out with my daughter all day. I consider myself a lucky fella!
CURRENT PROJECT THAT YOU ARE MOST PSYCHED ON:  I don’t particularly work with ONE project in mind. I usually have multiple projects that I tend to depending on where I am climbing. My goal this season is to do more multi-pitch climbing!
PROUDEST SEND: When I think of all the memorable sends (first onsight 5.10, first onsight 5.11, first 5.12, first FA, first 12 hour mini epic climb at Looking Glass) I have a hard time because as we develop our skills as climbers we search for the next proudest send. My CURRENT proudest send is onsighting Focus 5.11c/d R at Rumbling Bald, North Carolina on July 28th 2011 (yeah, that’s right, in the summer).
FAVORITE CLIMBING AREA: Columbia, South Carolina is a very hard place to live in if you want to become good at climbing. Crowders Mountain is an hour and forty five minutes away, Rumbling Bald is about two and a half hours, Looking Glass is about 3 hours, you get the picture… That said, I would consider my local crags to be Rumbling Bald and Crowders Mountain State Park but mostly Crowders Mountain. It was at this overcrowded choss rock that I developed my traditional and sport climbing. Most people are going to laugh when they read this but that’s okay because Crowders has a special place in my heart. My goal is to finish leading everything in the main area and start chipping away at the Hidden Wall.
YOUR ORIGINAL CLASSIC: My Original Classic is my first FA. I don’t know if anyone has repeated it, so this is my challenge to the masses! Prick-A-Digi Ow! is located on the Backside of Middle Finger Wall at Crowders Mountain State Park. It is a second variation of Pick-A-Dilly Prow (5.11b) that stays on the face of the wall the whole time. Check it out here.
PERSONAL HERO(s): I am finding that North Carolina Climbers with their BOLD ground-up ethics are my hero(s). I recently have been meeting some of today’s adventure climbers that are actually putting up routes ground up! I’m stoked to climb areas that are/were developed in this style. Why aren’t there more famous North Carolina climbers??
WHY DO YOU LOVE CLIMBING? I love that I can either go climbing with the intention of getting work done or go climbing with a group of beginners to pass my love of the sport on. I know that when I first wanted to go outside it was hard to find anyone willing to take a novice with them. Now I set up group trips with locals from Columbia, S.C. I feel that to often as we progress we forget to give back a little of what we were given when we first started climbing.
CRIMPS OR SLOPERS? JUGS!! (on over hanging walls) When it is all said and done, I am always challenging myself to be a well rounded climber. I don’t want to be labeled a ‘one trick pony’, so I will climb on anything and everything! Bring on the Slopey Crimps!
MUSIC IN ROTATION: Whatever anyone else has on! I’m not picky, otherwise you’ll have to listen to me sing as I climb (distracts me from the fear).
FUTURE? Keep climbing! Keep progressing! I want to spend one weekend at Crowders and see how many of the climbs I can lead. My goal would be to lead climb everything 5.12 and under in the Main Area in one weekend.
