Introducing Original Classic athlete, Dalton Hilfinger. On top of being a strong climber and dear friend, Dalton is a very talented sport photographer. Congrats on Senderella sit, bud!

CURRENT TOWN: Beech Mountain
GIVE US A GLIMPSE INTO YOUR WORLD. WHAT IS A NORMAL DAY? I’m either out climbing at one of the many established boulder problems around the area, or hiking through the woods looking for new blocs. If it’s a rest day I’m usually filming or taking pictures.
CURRENT PROJECT THAT YOU ARE MOST PSYCHED ON: There are some un-repeated lines around the area that I’d like to climb. One of them is at Thunder Hill. It’s a tall arete feature, supposedly the first guy to climb it worked it over 10 years before it went. I’m psyched to climb it. I found some cool boulders this season close to my home. There is one standout feature that has a beautiful project on it. It’s beautiful orange and pink rock, and its a big roof. I’m psyched to try it.
PROUDEST SEND: Senderella sit at the Dump Boulders, Boone, NC.
FAVORITE CLIMBING AREA: Grandmother Mountain in Boone, North Carolina. Amazing boulders nestled in a beautiful forest. There’s something for everybody out there, fun easy climbing or hard test pieces. Its always a good time.
YOUR ORIGINAL CLASSIC: Original Classic (Barn Boulders, Boone, NC) lives up to it’s name. It’s an amazing boulder problem with fantastic holds and hard movement. I’m pretty sure I’ve climbed on that problem more than any other one. It never gets old.
PERSONAL HERO(s): People like Mike Stam, Joey Henson, and Pat Goodman. They’ve been developing new climbing around here for many years. Its really an amazing wealth of knowledge they’ve acquired about the area. Whenever I talk to them, I realize how much there is to see, and that gets me psyched to continuing exploring and climbing.
WHY DO YOU LOVE CLIMBING? There’s nothing else like it. I love to project boulders. It can take a while to figure out how to climb some of these things, and it feels amazing when it all comes together. The harder the struggle was to climb it, the better it feels when you finish the climb.
CRIMPS OR SLOPERS? All crimps everything!
MUSIC IN ROTATION: Little Dragon, Flying Lotus, Ziggurat, J Dilla, Hieroglyphics
FUTURE? Lots of climbing, lots of filming. I want to get my travel on and visit some other areas around the country. There are some lines I’ve been hearing about for years and I want to check them out.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO SEE ON A CLIMBER TEE? Bright geometry and colors. Something that pops when you see a photograph of it.
